Lefebvrist leader foresees doctrinal talks with Vatican beginning in autumn
July 31, 2009
Bishop Bernard Fellay, the head of the traditionalist Society of St. Pius X (SSPX), has said that he expected to begin direct talks with Vatican officials in the fall, in a bid to reach agreement on doctrinal issues that still separate the Lefebvrist group from the Holy See. In an interview with Italy's APCom news agency (translated into English by Rorate Caeli), Bishop Fellay said that firm dates for those talks had not yet been set, but he expressed some optimism that an agreement could be reached-- adding that his own preference would be for the creation of a personal prelature for the SSPX. However he said that the traditional group would not compromise in its criticism of some Vatican II teachings.
