New shifts in Roman Curia

July 03, 2009

Archbishop Francesco Monterisi, the secretary of the Congregation for Bishops, has been named by Pope Benedict XVI to become archpriest of the Roman basilica of St. Paul-outside-the-Walls. He replaces Cardinal Andrea Cordero Lanza di Montezemolo, who is resigning at the age of 83.

To fill the opening created by Archbishop Monterisi's departure, the Pope has named Archbishop Manuel Monteiro de Castro, who is currently serving as apostolic nuncio in Spain, to be the new secretary of the Congregation for Bishops.
