Ethiopian Orthodox leader says he will unveil the Ark of the Covenant

Patriarch Abuna Paulos, the leader of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, has announced plans to reveal the Ark of the Covenant. The Ethiopian Orthodox Church has traditionally claimed possession of the Ark, but kept it securely hidden. Now the Ethiopian patriarch says that it will be placed on display in a museum in the city of Axum. Claims that the Ark of the Covenant was transported to Ethiopia have circulated since ancient times; the patriarch says that it has been safeguarded by the Orthodox Church "for centuries."
