Vatican lists all Chinese bishops: a sign of impasse in talks with Beijing

September 11, 2017

CWN Editor's Note: The Vatican publishing house, Libreria Editrice Vaticana, has published a listing of all the Catholic dioceses in China, with their bishops: an accounting that has previously been unavailable to the public. The listing shows the many Chinese bishops who have served time in prison camps, and several who are still in custody. Veteran Vatican-watcher Sandro Magister of L'Espresso sees the listing as another sign that talks between Rome and Beijing have bogged down.

The Vatican yearbook, the Annuario Pontificio, lists all bishops in other countries, but for years has not listed the Chinese dioceses.

The above note supplements, highlights, or corrects details in the original source (link above). About CWN news coverage.
