Malta's president visits Pope

June 18, 2009

Pope Benedict XVI met on June 18 with President George Abela of Malta. Their discussions, the Vatican reported, centered on social life in the Mediterranean island nation, "in which the Catholic Church continues to play an important role." The discussion extended to international affairs as well, particularly the prospects for peace in the Middle East.
