Kenyan priests' group plans illicit ordination of new bishop

June 12, 2009

Spokesman for a small group of Catholic priests dedicated to ending the rule of priestly celibacy have claimed that they remain loyal Catholics, even though they plan to ordain a new bishop without permission from the Holy See-- an act that brings the penalty of excommunication. Father Daniel Kisomo, the leader of the Married Priests Now movement-- which claims only 7 official members-- will be ordained to the episcopacy by Emmanuel Milingo, the Zambian archbishop who was excommunicated in September 2006. The group has declined to say when and where the illicit ordination will take place.
