Women at US Catholic schools more likely to abort, survey shows
June 02, 2009
American women enrolled at Catholic colleges and universities are more likely to have abortions than their counterparts at public schools, according to a new study. The study-- by Amy Adamczyk of City University of New York-- confirmed an earlier study sponsored by the Cardinal Newman Society (CNS), which had found that Catholic colleges and universities had little impact on the moral behavior of students. The CNS study had shown that 84% of the students on Catholic campuses knew couples who engaged in premarital sex, and nearly 1 in 5 knew someone who had procured an abortion. “This dangerous anti-life trend at Catholic educational institutions confirms what Pope Benedict XVI has reiterated many times, that there is an underlying crisis of faith among young people that is not being adequately addressed even by Catholic educators,” said CNS president Patrick Reilly.
