Pope to make pilgrimage to Fátima

December 19, 2016

Pope Francis will make a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Fátima in Portugal on May 12 and 13, the Holy See Press Office announced on December 17.

The pilgrimage follows an invitation the nation’s president, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, as well as the Portuguese bishops.

May 13 marks the 100th anniversary of the first apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary to three children, Blessed Francisco Marto (1908-19), Blessed Jacinta Marto (1910-20), and Lúcia Santos (1907-2005), who became a nun.
