Meeting Georgian delegation, Pope recalls September visit
December 01, 2016
Pope Francis met on December 1 with a delegation of Catholics from Georgia, and told that that it was a “great joy” for him to visit their country in September.
“I never thought I would find in Georgia what I saw: The culture, spirituality, a people that praises Jesus Christ as the Savior, because it is a Christian population,” the Pope said. Recognizing that the country’s Catholic population is very small, he encouraged the faithful to work closely with their Orthodox neighbors, and said that his meeting with the Orthodox Patriarch Ilia II left him convinced that he was “a man of God.”
