Prelate: ‘Brexit is causing serious problems’

November 17, 2016

The vice president of the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the EU said in a recent interview that “Brexit is causing serious problems.”

Brexit’s “serious problems” extend “not only to the United Kingdom but also to Europe as a whole, for financial and economic reasons as well as in terms of Europe’s future,” Bishop Gianni Ambrosio of Piacenza-Bobbio told the Italian news agency SIR.

Bishop Ambrosio said that at a recent meeting of EU bishops “we wondered: will European countries be able to recognize what they have in common, which is far more important than legitimate diversities? Will the desire for peace, cooperation and responsibility prevail?”

What!?! Have the bishops found something in the world more important than diversity? I wonder how many college campuses will ban them from speaking there, or how many would deny them a speaking fee should they permit them to mouth such heterodoxy. Will the Pope address this unfortunate lapse in judgment? How many TV and radio commercials, how many politicians, how many community organizations have been telling us for the last 8 years that our strength lies in our diversity?
