Bid to ban abortion of disabled babies advances in British Parliament

Legislation that would make it illegal to abort children because of their disabilities has advanced in the British House of Lords.

The Abortion Disability Equality Bill, introduced by Lord Shinkwin, would remove a provision of existing law that makes abortion legal throughout the term of pregnancy if the unborn child is found to be disabled. Lord Shinkwin argues that this is a clear instance of discrimination against the disabled. “Either we believe in equality or we do not,” he reasons.
