Cardinal Parolin: Mother Teresa 'a clear mirror of the love of God'

September 05, 2016

Celebrating the Thanksgiving Mass after the canonization of Mother Teresa, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State, said that the new saint is "a clear mirror of the love of God and an admirable example of service to our neighbor, especially to the poorest, most derelict, and most abandoned of people."

Quoting from the address that Mother Teresa delivered as she accepted the Nobel Peace Prize for 1979, the cardinals said: "It is very important to realize that love, to be true, has to hurt. It hurt Jesus to love us, it hurt him."

Cardinal Parolin reminded the congregation that in speaking of the "poorest of the poor," Mother Teresa had said that unborn children are the neediest of all people.
