Leading Islamic cleric condemns killing of French priest
July 27, 2016
The head of Egypt's Al Azhar University, regarded as the world's leading institution of Sunni Islam, has condemned the brutal killing of a French priest.
"Those who carried out this savage attack," said Imam Ahmad al Tayyib, lack "any sense of humanity and all the values and principles of Islamic tolerance, which invite us to peace and to avoid the bloodshed of innocents." He called for greater efforts to eliminate the "cancer" of terrorism.
