Barbados bishop laments buying of votes
July 27, 2016
In a July 26 talk to business leaders, Barbados’s bishop called for the adoption of a code of conduct to end the practice of vote buying in the Caribbean nation.
“We have not yet evolved our political system to serve the civilization we want to become,” said Bishop Charles Jason Gordon of Bridgetown. “When the act of democracy becomes corrupted, an entire nation can be affected.”
The nation of 285,000 is two-thirds Protestant and only 3% Catholic.
