Prominent rabbi defends Pope Benedict

May 12, 2009

On the eve of Pope Benedict’s arrival in Israel, Rabbi David Rosen, chairman of the International Jewish Committee for Inter-religious Consultations, defended the Pontiff against criticism from other Jewish leaders. “I don’t know what people want from him,” he said. “No matter what he does, they will always attack him”

Calling Pope Benedict’s attitude towards the Jews and the State of Israel “consistently very good,” Rabbi Rosen added,”Our sages of blessed memory teach us to tell the truth, and when the facts are distorted and there is slander, I must present things as they are.”
