Pope Francis lauds theology of Benedict XVI

June 22, 2016

Pope Francis pays tribute to his predecessor, Pope-emeritus Benedict XVI, in the preface to a new collection of the former Pontiff's theological work.

"Every time I have read the works of Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI, it becomes increasingly clear that he has done and is doing 'theology on his knees,'" the Pope writes. He speaks of his predecessor as "a great theologian and defender of the faith," and "a man who embodies holiness."

The preface is for a book in the series of the collected works of the former Pope, to be published in English by Ignatius Press.
