Scottish bishop: have compassion on persecuted Christians

Addressing a youth rally, a Scottish bishop called on “those in power in Scotland and across the world” to have compassion on persecuted Christians.
“A number of our fellow Scots have paid with their lives for their religious beliefs, not least of all our own St John Ogilvie, martyred just a few miles from here at Glasgow Cross, for refusing to accept the King’s spiritual jurisdiction,” Bishop John Keenan of Paisley said at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes at Carfin.
“We unite today in prayer to bear witness to the atrocities committed against Christians and all those who are persecuted and oppressed for their religious beliefs,” he added. “We ask those in power in Scotland and across the world to show a renewed commitment to religious freedom and a gentle compassion for those fleeing unimaginable violence and intolerance.”
