Austria: over 200 asylum seekers entered catechumenate in 2015

70% of the 300 adults who entered the catechumenate in Austria in 2015 are migrants and refugees who sought asylum, according to a report from the Austrian bishops’ news agency.
In a new document on the catechumenate, the Austrian Bishops’ Conference proposed a model of the catechumenate that includes the proclamation of the Gospel, a year-long period of learning more about the faith, and six weeks of preparation for the sacraments of initiation.
Warning of the possibility of insincere conversions, the document stressed the importance of discerning the motives of those entering the catechumenate.
