Caritas appeal for Ecuador
April 19, 2016
Caritas Internationalis, the Church’s confederation of relief and development agencies, has issued an appeal for donations following a devastating April 16 earthquake near Muisne, Ecuador.
“The most remote parishes were very affected,” said an official with Caritas Ecuador. “We are seeing people who have evacuated their homes and are sleeping in the streets. People need tents and inflatable boats because some of the affected areas cannot be reached as the roads are destroyed.”
Following the earthquake, the nation’s bishops prayed that God would have mercy on the victims and sought the intercession of the Virgin Mary, Queen of creation, to “help us trust more in the provident God, the Lord of nature.”
