Rash of vandalism at Massachusetts Catholic churches seen as hate crime

April 01, 2016

The Catholic Action League of Massachusetts has asked Attorney General Maura Healey to investigate a rash of incidents of vandalism at Catholic churches in the state.

Three statues of the Virgin Mary have been severely damaged in the past week, and at least four other serious acts of vandalism have been reported at Catholic churches already this year, the League reported. C.J. Doyle, the executive director of the Catholic Action League, called for an investigation into a pattern of hate crime. He said:

The number and increasing frequency of these attacks upon Catholic churches, their malicious timing, coinciding with Catholic holy days, and the heartbreaking effects being suffered by the Catholic faithful, should not be treated by law enforcement as a mere accumulation of isolated incidents.

The attorney general's office said that she is looking into the crimes.

The head and hands were cut off the BVM statues (ISIS does this). One was spray painted black (women must wear Burkas). The word ALLAH was written in Arabic on one of the statues. We have a very serious problem, and yes, this is a hate crime. But the media reports it as isolated incidents. Why is it that?

Judging from the lack of response to this news, The expected Catholic outrage is less than a whimper. Is anybody there, does anybody care?
