Vatileaks trial postponed after defendant Chaouqui hospitalized
March 17, 2016
The Vatican has announced a three-week postponement of the "Vatileaks II" trial, after a doctor said that one defendant needs 20 days of "total bedrest."
Defendant Franceca Chaouqui, who is in the late stages of pregnancy, was instructed by her doctor to remain in bed after a hospital visit on March 16. The Vatican tribunal that is hearing the case consequently put off the next public session until April 6.
The trial, which resumed this week with Msgr. Lucio Vallejo Balda admitting that he had leaked confidential documents, had been scheduled to continue on March 19.
