Two prominent American prelates, Cardinal Justin Rigali of Philadelphia and Archbishop Charles Chaput of Denver, have added their names to the growing list of bishops issuing public statements criticizing Notre Dame for inviting President Obama to speak at commencement. Some 53 bishops have now protested the school's decision to honor Obama.
