Vatican conference on Pope Benedict’s 1st encyclical
February 25, 2016
On February 25, the Pontifical Council Cor Unum is hosting a conference on the tenth anniversary of Deus Caritas Est, Pope Benedict XVI’s first encyclical.
Writing in L’Osservatore Romano, Msgr. Giampietro Dal Toso, the pontifical council’s secretary, described charity as the “privileged way of the new evangelization” and said that Pope Francis recently praised the encyclical as “brilliant.”
A particularly important fruit of the encyclical, Msgr. Dal Toso added, is Pope Benedict’s 2012 motu proprio Intima Ecclesiae, which offers canonical norms for Catholic charities.
