First stage of renovation completed at Nativity basilica in Bethlehem
February 16, 2016
The first stage of a massive renovation project at the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem has been completed.
Authorized by the Palestinian Authority, and mostly financed by Palestinians, the renovation project includes structural repairs and restoration of mosaics that have been obscured by centuries of soot. Almost $8 million has been spent on the two-year project to date; the head of the restoration effort estimates that another $11 million will be needed to complete the work.
