New bishop for Anglican ordinariate means 'we're here to stay'

The ordination of the first bishop to lead the Anglican ordinariate in the United States means "we're here to say," Msgr. Harry Entwistle, who leads the Anglican ordinariate in Australia, told the <I>National Catholic Register</i>.

Bishop Stephen Lopes, a California native who had been working at the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, was ordained this week to lead the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter, which serves Catholics of the Anglican tradition throughout the United States.

While working at the Vatican, Bishop Lopes helped to work out the special arrangement that was codified by Pope Benedict XVI in Anglicanorum Coetibus, setting up the ordinariates that have welcomed hundreds of Anglicans into the Catholic fold. There are now 42 Catholic communities in the US under the ordinariate, with 62 priests.
