Israel, Vatican step up pace of diplomatic talks

Diplomatic representatives of Israel and the Holy See are continuing negotiations on an accelerated pace, evidently still hoping to complete an economic-juridical agreement before the May visit by Pope Benedict XVI to the Holy Land. The two sides met in Jerusalem on April 23, reported "great cordiality" in a working conference, and announced that a full negotiating session would take place April 30. Stalled for years, the talks have been stepped up dramatically in the months leading up to the papal visit.
