Protect holy sites, Chaldean patriarchate urges
January 25, 2016
Following reports confirming the destruction of Iraq’s oldest monastery, the patriarchate of the Chaldean Catholic Church has called upon the Iraqi government and its allies to do more to protect holy sites from the forces of the Islamic State.
“As we condemn this destructive work that erases Mosul memory, we are asking the allied forces to preserve and protect such [a] precious heritage and other similar Christian and Islamic locations,” the patriarchate said in a January 22 statement.
