December 14, 2015

The Holy See Press Office has announced the schedule of Pope Francis’s upcoming apostolic journey to Mexico, which will take place from February 12 to 18.

On February 12, he will depart from Rome and arrive in Mexico City. The following day, he will visit the National Palace, where he will meet with President Enrique Peña Nieto and address civil leaders and the diplomatic corps, before addressing the nation’s bishops at the Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral and celebrating Mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

On February 14, he will celebrate Mass in Ecatepec, a nearby city of 1.6 million, and return to Mexico City, where he will visit a pediatric hospital and address figures from the cultural world in the National Auditorium.

The next day, he will travel to the southern city of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, where he will celebrate Mass for the indigenous community, have lunch with their representatives, and visit the cathedral. That afternoon, he will travel to Tuxtla Gutiérrez, a nearby city of 550,000, where he will meet with families.

On February 16, he will travel to Morelia, the city of 730,000 that has suffered much in recent years from drug trafficking. In Morelia, he will offer Mass, visit the cathedral, and take part in a meeting with youth.

On February 17, he will fly to Ciudad Juárez, the city of 1.3 million on the Rio Grande across from El Paso, Texas. There he will visit a prison, hold a meeting with laborers, and celebrate Mass. He will depart for Rome that evening, arriving the following day.
