Catholic Charities: maintain funding for HHS, HUD programs

December 01, 2015

Catholic Charities USA has called upon leaders of the House and Senate Appropriations Committee to maintain the current level of funding for several federal programs.

Brian Corbin, the organization’s executive vice president, stated on November 30 that “the following programs and those already existing need to be kept at current funding levels: (1.) Health and Human Services Programs such as those for child welfare, family support and the elderly; (2.) Nutrition Programs such as those for women, infants and children, and summer food services for children; (3.) Housing and Urban Development Programs such as emergency shelter grants and housing counseling assistance; and (4.) Juvenile Justice Programs.”

Catholic Charities USA receives almost 90% of its funding from the U.S. Govt. It certainly isn't "Catholic." We should divest ourselves from Catholic Charities and do something in each diocese as Bishop Edward Slattery of Tulsa, OK has done - privatizing Catholic Charities: http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/religion/catholic-charities-forgoes-government-funding-stays-true-to-values/article_ea0ceaea-4613-598f-a1bb-bc5c567bb22b.html
