Chinese 'underground' priest found dead; friends doubt government's explanation of suicide

November 16, 2015

A priest of China’s “underground” Catholic Church has been found dead, in what government officials term a suicide, but loyal Catholics consider suspicious circumstances.

The body of Father Pedro Yu Heping was found in the Fen River in Taiyuan, Shanxi province, on November 8. He was last seen by members of his parish on November 6, and gave no indication that he was unhappy. Friends insist that he would never have contemplated suicide, the Cardinal Kung Foundation reports.
