Pope to visit Mexico in February
November 02, 2015
Cardinal Norberto Rivera of Mexico City has announced that Pope Francis will visit his country next February.
The cardinal said that the Pontiff would arrive in Mexico City on February 12. He did not disclose any other specifics about the plans for the papal trip.
Early in October the Vatican had confirmed that “a project exists” for a papal visit to Mexico in 2016, but had not given any details.
A visit to Mexico had been mentioned as a possibility when plans were being made for the September 2015 papal trip to the US. However in January 2015, as those plans became more concrete, the Pope told reporters that rather than adding complications to his week-long trip in September, he would make a separate visit to Mexico.
