German newspaper reports on rare visit with Pope-emeritus Benedict
October 20, 2015
In a rare media appearance, Pope-emeritus Benedict told the editor of the German newspaper Bild Zeitung that “I feel I am in even closer communion with God.”
In an October visit with the retired Pontiff, Bild Zeitung found him “wearing a white cassock and a simple pair of brown sandals.” Two years after his resignation he appears healthy, showing little of the exhaustion that was evident during the last days of his pontificate. Although he now uses a walker, he maintains a regular schedule of prayer, reading, listening to and playing music, and visiting the Lourdes grotto in the Vatican gardens to say the Rosary every evening.
