Venezuelan hierarchy rattled by break-in at bishops' offices

Bishop Jesus Gonzalez Zarate, the secretary-general of the Venezuelan bishops' conference, says that Church leaders are dealing with a "climate of insecurity" after an April 14 break-in at offices of the episcopal conference. The intruders took nothing of value, but ransacked files. Church officials said that they had not determined the motivation for the crime, but the Venezuelan bishops have been the target of attacks by supporters of President Hugo Chavez, a harsh critic of the hierarchy.
