800,000 sign plea for clear statement of Church teaching on marriage, family

Almost 800,000 people, including more than 200 bishops, have signed a "filial appeal" to Pope Francis, asking for a clear statement of Church teachings on marriage and the family.

The petition, launched in March in an expression of concern about the "widespread confusion" surrounding discussions at the Synod of Bishops, has drawn support from Catholics in 178 different countries. The signatories urge Pope Francis to speak out, clarifying the situation; the appeal argues that "a word from Your Holiness is the only way to clarify the growing confusion amongst the faithful."
