Vatican releases names of all participants in upcoming Synod

September 15, 2015

The Holy See Press Office has released the names of all the participants in the 14th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, which begins on October 4.

The Vatican has already released the names of the leading synod officials and the participants chosen by the bishops of over 100 nations, including four prelates from the United States: Archbishop Joseph Kurtz of Louisville, Archbishop Charles Chaput of Philadelphia, Cardinal Daniel DiNardo of Galveston-Houston, and Archbishop José Gomez of Los Angeles.

The new, complete list includes representatives of Eastern Catholic churches, the heads of curial dicasteries, lay auditors, ecumenical observers, and 44 participants chosen by Pope Francis.

Twenty-six of the 44 are cardinals, and four are Americans: Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington, Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York, Archbishop Blase Cupich of Chicago, and Bishop George Murry of Youngstown.

Among the other participants chosen by Pope Francis are Cardinals Angelo Sodano, Godfried Danneels, Christoph Schönborn, Walter Kasper, Wilfrid Fox Napier, Oscar Andrés Rodríguez Maradiaga, Carlo Caffarra, and Luis Antonio Tagle.
