Orthodox group to honor Vice President Biden for human-rights work

September 14, 2015

An Orthodox group will honor Vice President Joseph Biden for his human-rights work at an October banquet in New York. The Order of St. Andrew, Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, will present Biden with the Athenagoras Human Rights Award, given annually to someone who has “consistently exemplified by action, purpose and dedication concern for the basic rights and religious freedom of all people.” Previous recipients include Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Elie Wiesel, Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Mikhail Gorbachev, and Cardinal Theodore McCarrick.

Chestertonian wrote that Biden voted to block the nomination of Bork partly based on the abortion litmus test. By my recollection, the liberal distaste for Bork went far deeper than that. He was accused of embracing the natural law. This embrace of natural law threatened all American jurisprudence because it would bring God into court proceedings, which would be a clear violation of the insurmountable wall of separation between church and state. No, positive human law must prevail in the court.

Biden also is an avowed supporter of abortion rights, despite his supposed Catholic faith. It was, in part, due to his support for abortion that caused then-Senator Biden to block the nomination of Judge Robert Bork to the Supreme Court. There are so many others who are far more worthy of recognition. One can't help but wonder if there's a political agenda here.

"consistently exemplified by action, purpose and dedication concern [sic] for the basic rights and religious freedom of all people". Did I miss Bidens support for Kim Davis? Or does she lose her religious freedom because she is a state employee and will leaver her religious freedom at the office door in order to comply with the Fantastic Five (Justices) and thire Obergefell Decision? John Adams, Ben Franklin, Tom Jefferson, where are you when "your revolution" is in danger?
