Cuba will release prisoners-- but not political prisoners-- before Pope's visit

The government of Cuba has announced plans to release 3,500 prisoners from the country's jails in anticipation of the visit by Pope Francis later this month.

Political prisoners will apparently not benefit from the amnesty, however. The Cuban government said that people convitted of "crimes against state security" would not be among those released.
