Israeli Catholics demonstrate to protest government budget cuts for Church schools

September 02, 2015

Catholics in Nazareth organized a demonstration on September 1 to protest Israeli government policies slashing support for Church-run schools.

Bishop Giacinto Boulos Marcuzzo, an auxiliary of the Latin-rite Patriarchate of Jerusalem, participated in the demonstration along with a number of Catholic priests and religious, charging that the Israeli policies are putting the continued existence of Catholic schools at risk.

There are 47 Christian schools in Israel, educating over 33,000 students. State support for these schools has been cut nearly one-half in recent years.
