Pope offers support for talks on peace accord in Colombia

August 14, 2015

Pope Francis has offered his encouragement to magistrates working toward a peace settlement between the government of Colombia and FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) rebels.

In an August 14 message the Pope called for “creativity and courage to find solutions to strengthen peace and justice.” His message was addressed to Msgr. José Daniel Falla Robles, the secretary-general of the Colombian bishops’ conference, for the 18th session of a conference on the legal ramifications of a peace accord. The Pope expressed his hope that the meeting “will help to achieve the construction of an increasingly more inclusive and stable and lasting peace.”
