Vatican welcomes Iran nuclear agreement

July 14, 2015

The Vatican has issued a statement welcoming the conclusion of an international accord in which Iran has agreed to curb its efforts to acquire nuclear weapons.

“The agreement on the Iranian nuclear program is viewed in a positive light by the Holy See," said Father Federico Lombardi, the director of the Vatican press office. His statement, released on July 14, continued:

It constitutes an important outcome of the negotiations carried out so far, although continued efforts and commitment on the part of all involved will be necessary in order for it to bear fruit. It is hoped that those fruits will not be limited to the field of nuclear program, but may indeed extend further.

Statements like this erode what little credibility these prelates have left.

If the Holy See really believes what it says, it may still be holy but it's obviously blind. On the other hand, folks who are willfully blind are usually not very holy.

We'll see how positive the Holy See will be in 10 years, when Iran possess nuclear weapons and is holding the world hostage, shooting them at Israel and freely selling them to any radical Islamic group that has a buck or two! I wonder how positive the Holy See will be when every Middle East country tries to join the nuclear club just to protect themselves. I can see the headlines now: "Holy See urges stop of nuclear proliferation" or "Holy See opposes Iranian nuclear strike on Israel." SAD!
