US mayors to attend Vatican conference on climate change, human trafficking
July 08, 2015
The mayors of Boulder (Colorado), Minneapolis, Portland (Oregon), and Seattle will join counterparts from around the world at a Vatican workshop on human trafficking and climate change.
The Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences is hosting “Modern Slavery and Climate Change: The Commitment of the Cities” on July 21, and Pope Francis is scheduled to meet with attendees.
“It’s telling that the Pope is reaching out to mayors as part of his direct-action agenda to tackle climate action and poverty because we’re on the front lines of it and we’re committed to dealing with these challenges,” said Gregor Robertson, the mayor of Vancouver.
“I’ll be sharing stories from our work in Vancouver and encouraging global cities and the Vatican to continue pressing for more urgent and aggressive action,” he added.

Sounds like a "political liberals only" gathering on a weird combination of topics. The Vatican invitation say, "The Pontifical Academies of Sciences and Social Sciences are organising a 1-day workshop that will take place on 21 July 2015, during which 50 Mayors of the most important cities of the world will have the possibility of sharing this commitment in the presence of Pope Francis ... That certainly raises the stature of Boulder (Colorado), Minneapolis, Portland (Oregon), and Seattle!
