Connecticut bishop will not attend Catholic college ceremonies

April 06, 2009

Bishop William Lori of Bridgeport, Connecticut, will not attend awards ceremonies at Sacred Heart University on April 22, although he is the chairman of the school's board of directors. The bishop is staying away to protest the university's decision to honor Kerry Kennedy, a Catholic who supports abortion rights. Kennedy is the author of Being Catholic Now, a book that supports dissent from Church teaching.
