India: Protestant minister jailed for ‘forced conversions’

May 26, 2015

A Pentecostal minister who baptized 16 persons in the east Indian state of Odisha has been jailed on “forced conversion” charges.

“The ceremony took place only after obtaining 16 notarized affidavits in which the catechumens said they had embraced Christianity of their own free will,” the president of the Global Council of Indian Christians told AsiaNews.

Odisha, formerly known as Orissa, is the site of 2008 anti-Christian pogrom that led 50,000 Christians to flee their homes.
