San Francisco: loyal Catholics rally behind Archbishop Cordileone
May 18, 2015
Hundreds of Catholics of the San Francisco archdiocese joined in a family picnic organized as a show of support for Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone.
The informal event was designed to counteract the organized public criticism of the archbishop by influential residents of the San Francisco area who have opposed his campaign to ensure a distinctive Catholic identity in parochial schools.
Archbishop Cordileone attended the picnic and greeted participants. But in keeping with the informal nature of the event, he did not make an official address to the crowd.
