Pope writes on role of athletic coaches in youth formation

May 15, 2015

Pope Francis addressed the important role that athletic coaches can play in the development of young people, in a message to a seminar on coaching, conducted under the auspices of the Pontifical Council for the Laity.

He said that a good coach should be “an example of integrity, coherence, good judgment, impartiality, and also joy, patience, and the capacity for appreciation and benevolence towards all, and especially the most disadvantaged!” “And how important it is,” the Pope added, “for him to offer an example of faith!”
