US: Conversions to Catholicism down 12% in 2007

136,778 Americans were received into the Catholic Church in 2007-- down from 155,439 in 2006, according to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, citing figures published in the 2008 and 2007 editions of The Official Catholic Directory. Of the 136,778, 62,464 were catechumens who received the Sacrament of Baptism, while 92,975 were baptized Christians who were received into full communion with the Church. 154,501 Americans were received to the Church in 2005; 155,125 in 2004; and 152,258 in 2003.
