Freed Boko Haram kidnapping victims are undernourished and in shock, says prelate

May 06, 2015

More than 300 persons, kidnapped by Boko Haram and freed by the Nigerian army, traveled to camps in Yola.

The city’s bishop told the MISNA news agency that the victims are malnourished and in shock.

“The women and children are undernourished, exhausted and tried with sufferance: they will need to be fed and treated, physically even before physiologically,” said Bishop Stephen Mamza.

MISNA reported that “the women spoke of some other women having been stoned to death for refusing to follow their jailers when hunted down by the army troops. Others [spoke] of sexual violence and forced marriages with the Islamists. Many of the hostages however do not speak.”
