Philadelphia priest returned to prison after court decision reinstating conviction
April 30, 2015
A prominent priest of the Philadelphia archdiocese has returned to jail, after the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania overturned an appeals-court decision and reinstated his conviction on child-endangerment charges.
Msgr. William Lynn had served over a year in prison before the appeals court overturned his conviction. He has been under house arrest since early last year, pending legal appeals.
Judge Teresa Sarmina rejected the priest’s bid to continue living under house arrest until his own appeal is heard. At a hearing on April 29 she revoked his bail and ordered him taken into custody immediately.
