Nigerian troops free 300 women kidnapped by Boko Haram

April 29, 2015

Nigerian military forces have announced the liberation of about 300 women and girls who had been kidnapped and held hostage by Boko Haram terrorists.

The hostages were freed when Nigerian troops conducted a raid on a Boko Haram stronghold. Last week, the Nigerian offensive had uncovered mass graves containing the remains of hundreds of Boko Haram victims near Damask, in northeastern Nigeria.

Archbishop Oliver Dashe Doeme of Maiduguri told Aid to the Church in Need that he was hopeful the military offensive would be “the beginning of the end of Boko Haram.” However he said that he was not surprised that the terrorist group had apparently killed more civilians during its retreat.

About 5,000 Catholics have been killed by the Islamic extremists, the Fides news agency reports.

Thanks be to God that these women are free. Eternal rest onto those who were murdered. I'm glad that the Nigerian Army was able to free them and hopefully will soon capture the ring leaders of Boko Harem.

Praise the Lord for the 300 girls and women rescued; and may the souls of those murdered rest in peace.
