Vatican cardinal raps politician's 'absurd' campaign against Roma people

The president of the Pontifical Council for Migrants has denounced the “absurd” comments of an Italian political leader about the Roma (gypsy) people.

Matteo Salvini of the Northern League had called for the destruction of camps set up by Roma migrants. Cardinal Antonio Maria Veglio said that Salvini’s suggestions were “extreme positions, absurd,” and "…hardly worth wasting time discussing.”
